Sonya Mitchell/Rebecchi

Sonya Rebecchi was a character in Neighbours who first appeared in 2009. She married Toadfish Rebecchi (Jarrod Rebecchi) in 2013. The character passed away of ovarian cancer in Episode 8052 - 5 March 2019. Sonya was played by Eve Morey.

Biography[]

Sonya first showed up on Ramsay Street as a guide dog trainer for Jarrod and Callum's puppy. Jarrod and Sonya began dating however this was interrupted by his false relationship with Steph to cover up her pregnancy. Sonya later turned out to be Callum's biological mother and after some difficulties the three became a family. Sonya's sister Jade came to live with them for a while and had a relationship with Kyle, however then moved to LA.

Sonya has run her own nursery and been the mayor of Erinsborough. She and Toadie had a daughter together. Sonya offered to carry a baby for her friends Steph and Mark but she lost the baby. When she was younger she struggled with addiction and gave up custody of Callum. She recovered for a time but due to stressors including miscarriage and marriage difficulties she fell back into addiction. Sonya has since recovered.

In 2019, Sonya was diagnosed with stage IV ovarian cancer. Despite efforts to try and reduce the effects of the disease on her lifespan, it later became terminal and she was given several days to a week to live. Sadly, Sonya died the same day as this diagnosis, with a smile on her face and a tear rolling down her eye. Her last words to Toadie were "I love you". She was 37 years old.

Backstory[]

Sonya's parents died when she was younger in a car accident. This contributed to her addictions. She lost custody of her son Callum due to these addictions.

In 2016 she learnt that her uncle Walter was her biological father. She also found out that she had another sister who suffered from leukaemia and required a bone marrow transfusion. Callum was able to donate.
