Sheila Canning (Née unknown) was a character in Neighbours who first appeared in Episode 6394 - 3 May 2012, and made her last appearance in Episode 8778 - 8 February 2022. She is the grandmother of Kyle Canning and mother of the late Gary Canning who was killed at the hands of Finn Kelly. Sheila was one of the matriarchs of the show, and a more serious side to her bubbly personality surfaced when her son died. She was played by Colette Mann, who had been in neighbours years prior to her portrayal of Shelia.

Sheila was born in September, 1956 and met Frank Canning when she was 16 in 1972. They later married in 1975, and had 3 children, Gary Canning and Naomi Canning and Frank Canning Jnr. Frank Canning Sr. died in 2009 of a heart attack after finding out his daughter Naomi had an affair with a married man. Sheila was left devastated after her husband's death.
2012-2022[]
Shelia arrived in Erinsborough in 2012, visiting her grandson, Kyle Canning. Shelia would then leave but shortly returned and made a permanent residency at No. 26 Ramsay Street. No. 26 would be occupied with boys, making Shelia the only woman living there at the time. The other residents living there were Kyle Canning, Chris Pappas, and Rhys Lawson. In 2014, Shelia’s only daughter, Naomi would arrive in town. In 2016, Shelia and Kyle were visited by a teenage girl called Xanthe. Xanthe said she was looking for her father, Gary Canning. Shelia told Xanthe that Gary was in fact her son, saying that he had not known Xanthe had existed. After this, Shelia and Xanthe would clash heads but would eventually get along, and Xanthe would move in.
Later that year, Kyle would leave Erinsborough with his wife, Georgia. Shelia would then take on full responsibility of the No. 26. Later on, Gary also moved in as he was released from prison. In 2018, Shelia began dating Clive Gibbons, the CEO of Erinsborough Hospital, but this relationship would eventually end. In March 2020, Kyle and Gary went on a trip to Pierce Grayson’s private island. After the island trip for Elly Conway’s 35th birthday, everybody but Gary had returned. Shelia saw her grandson, Kyle, walk in the front door. Shelia got angry at her grandson for being dirty, then asking where Kyle’s father was. Kyle paused, breaking down. Shelia began worrying. Kyle then informed Shelia that Gary had died on the island while trying to save Bea Nilsson and Harlow Robinson from an abandoned mineshaft. Kyle also said a fire broke out, and he was told it was too late to save Gary. Shelia and Kyle mourned Gary together.
After Gary’s death, Shelia was visited by her daughter, Naomi, though this was only a brief visit. Later that year, Shelia found a pigeon in her backyard. Shelia would take an interest in the pigeon and began telling her grandson, Kyle, that the pigeon was his father, Gary, reincarnated. Kyle found this hilarious and doubted it, but Shelia kept believing it was really her late son. Because of this, Shelia would name the pigeon Gary.
In 2022, Shelia would leave Ramsay street after 10 memorable years of living there. Shelia said her goodbyes and left the street for good.
