Abigail Tanaka

Abigail "Abi" Tanaka is a character in Neighbours she is the daughter of Leo Tanaka and Britney Barnes, and additionally the stepdaughter of Krista Tanaka. She first appeared in Episode 8681 - 10 August 2021. She has been played by Nikita Kato since 2023.

Backstory[]

After Britney Barnes and Leo Tanaka’s relationship ended in New York, Britney found herself pregnant at some point afterward and knew that Leo was the father. Leo was now living in Australia, but Britney was still determined to tell him, and so she planned.

2021-2022[]

Soon afterwards, Abigail’s mother, Britney, had come to Erinsborough, Victoria, to try and find her baby’s father; Leo Tanaka. However, she instead met Nicolette Stone, who she bonded with because she was also pregnant. After Nicolette got the wrong end of the stick that Leo was sleeping with Chloe Brennan (Nicolette’s girlfriend at the time), Britney and Nicolette ran off to Canberra. While away, both Nicolette and Britney gave birth days apart to baby cousins Isla, and of course Abigail.

Soon afterwards, Britney began to struggle to bond with her baby and as a result suffered post-natal depression. Though, when Abigail and Isla’s paternal grandfather Paul Robinson rocked up after tracking Nicolette down, he offered he 1 Million dollars in exchange for her, David and Aaron’s baby that they had planned to co-parent. She agreed, but however gave Paul baby Abigail instead of Isla. All the money was then given to a soon regretful Britney.

Because of her guilt and regret, Britney returned to Erinsborough and began spying on baby Isla (who was actually Abigail) and her “parents” David and Aaron. When the opportunity came however, she snatched her baby daughter from the two. After Britney and Baby Isla were found, all was revealed soon after when Nicolette returned with the real Baby Isla. Soon afterwards, Abigail was raised by her now reunited parents, Britney and Leo, while Isla was raised by her own parents Nicolette, David and Aaron.

However, tragedy struck on Kyle and Roxy Canning’s post wedding celebration when Baby Abigail’s mum Britney was killed when a pylon crashed through the flamingo bar, which ended Britney’s life just as she had tried to protect her daughter.
